The children enjoyed preparing the batter for pancakes this past week for Pancake Day.
Cooking and preparing foods is a great way to incorporate mathematics into a fun task with
areas such as, measuring, volume and capacity and temperature. Science is also incorporated in cooking experiences.
Children can see changes and reactions to ingredients when they are combined and cooked, as well as understanding the state of matter such as, liquids and solids. There were lots of requests for the recipe we used. You can find it here.
The step by step photographs on the site are excellent for children of 3-6 years to follow,
especially when they are not quite up to reading complex instructions. Let us know how a batch
of these delicious pancakes goes down for Sunday brunch this weekend!
