Our History
We’ve been a respected provider of Montessori education on the north shore for almost 50 years, making us one of the longest running Montessori schools in NSW. Our alumni have gone on to become successful doctors, visual and performing artists, scientists, engineers, teachers, media professionals and more.
The Sydney Montessori Society (SMS) was established in 1975 with the opening of The Children's House Montessori Preschool in West Lindfield.
The school began with a vision, driven by parents, to provide Montessori education for local children. Our proud history of parental support and belief in Montessori education has built the reputation of our school within the Montessori community and ensured its longevity.
Recognition of the high quality of education provided at West Lindfield continued to grow within the community and, in 1985, SMS established a second school at Boronia Park. In January 1997, the Boronia Park premises were moved to North Ryde.
In 2002, with the increasing administrative demands of running two preschools at two locations, the SMS decided to separate into the SMS and the Lindfield Montessori Society (LMS). The SMS is now responsible for the Children’s House, North Ryde, while the LMS operates the Lindfield Montessori Preschool. Currently the school consists of one three-to-six classroom with the maximum capacity of 30 children in the grounds of the Northlight Anglican Church.
